to concentrate on is your body mass
index or BMI which can be calculated
with weight charts. This will tell you
the amount of fat you need to convert
to muscle in order to be at a healthy
weight. Losing weight is not just about
losing body mass. It is more about being
in good shape, with the appropriate
muscles and body mass over the fat content
you have.
You might have heard other individuals
talking about their BMI. You could even
be wondering how they are deriving that
number. There are scales and other tools
you can purchase to tell you your BMI
with weight charts. These can be a little
costly, especially if you have the following
tools at home. Grab your yardstick,
scale, calculator, pencil and paper.
You will need to weigh yourself on the
scale. Record the weight in pounds,
as the equation you will use will need
it in pounds.

know your height then you will not need

BMI= (weight in pounds/ (height in inches)

You will need to plug in the numbers
you found on the scale and on the yardstick.
Basically, to your height you are squaring
the number. If you are 5 foot 2 inches
you would be 62 inches in height. This
height squared is 3844 inches.

Now you will need to divide your weight
by the height. Once you have that
number, multiply it by 703. This will
be your body mass index number. It
is not just enough to know the answer
to this question. You also have to
know what it means.
Body weight charts will tell you a
BMI of 18 usually means you are under
weight. A BMI of 18.5 means you are
thin for your height. 18.6 to 24.9
is really where you want to be with
BMI. 25 to 29.9 BMI is over weight
for your height, and 30 or more means
obesity.
Where you fall on weight charts will
determine the type of exercise and
diet you will need in order to lose
weight. It will also give you a good
idea of how much body mass you lose
during the exercise. A scale can certainly
tell you how much weight you lose,
but it will not show the body mass
you may be losing. Keep in mind that
muscle mass does weigh more than fat,
so your numbers may at first increase
for BMI.
